Whatever the box-office-fate of "Blade Runner 2049" will be, the long wait has paid off. The more we move, inexorably it seems, towards the do-or-die reality of "Blade Runner", the more vital these stories become. But by slowing down and observing, the audience can revel in the immensity of the images. The movie's pace is deliberately patient, which may confuse some members of the audience. And although "Blade Runner 2049" may not achieve the same level of force as its predecessor, it is a tremendously immersive, philosophical and touching experience, that should be enjoyed on the largest screen possible. Harrison Ford, forge a credible bond with the audience and enhance the visual grandeur created by cinematographer Roger Deakins and production designer Dennis Gassner. The equally thrilling performances by Jared Leto, Ana De Armas, Robin Wright, Carla Juri and of course Mr. Gosling imbues his character with a very compelling façade, which starts to crumble as his humanity takes over his mechanical design. Ryan Gosling stars as a replicant of the latest generation, who tries to solve a puzzle that leads him into the realm of real and manufactured life, and walks along the same noirish paths that made the original so gripping. Hampton Fancher, who created the story of the original, has crafted a new screenplay with Michael Green, that not only builds on the themes of "Blade Runner", but ties them together with larger questions about the current human state and its challenges. Thankfully director Denis Villeneuve along with his talented collaborators never succumbs to imitating or trying to super-cede Ridley Scott's 1982 landmark "Blade Runner". She appeared in the Blade Runner sequel, Blade Runner 2049, as a designer of implanted memories for replicants.To chase after an iconic masterpiece, to imitate or to try and supplant its rightful place, is a fool's errand. She even went undercover as a student in a highschool where only the director of the school knew she was an actress. To prepare for this role, Juri wore the clothes of her character, Helen, for several weeks and spent a lot of this time in Berlin, where her character lives. The novel it is based on was a controversial best seller in Germany. This is arguably the role she is best known for. She also played the leading role in the 2013 film adaptation of Wetlands. In 2013, she was selected to receive the Shooting Star which is awarded annually to ten young European actors at the Berlin International Film Festival. The next year, she won the award for Best Actress for her role in Eine wen iig, dr Dällebach Kari. In 2011, she received the Swiss Film Award in the Best Performance in a Supporting Role category for 180° (2010). Juri's first film appearance was in the short film Midday Room.
She maintained a busy schedule trying to find work while making use of her trilinguialism. Juri started her acting career by hopping between auditions in Berlin, London, and Rome. From 2005 until 2010, she studied theater in Los Angeles and London. Her father is a lawyer and her mother is a sculptor In school, she played hockey for HC Ambrì-Piotta and went on to be a forward for the Swiss Schweizer Meister Class A team, SC Reinach. She learned German and Italian as a small child and picked up English at 15. She is fluent in German, English and Italian. Juri was raised in Ambrì, a village in the Italian-speaking Canton of Ticino in Switzerland. Her acting credits include 180°, Wetlands, Finsterworld, and Blade Runner 2049. Carla Juri (born January 2, 1985) is a Swiss actress.
